Chef Will Bring Her Show to a Kitchen Near You

Food and entertainment go hand-in-hand, and when the entertainment is step-by-step instruction in fine cuisine and the food includes such dishes as salmon fillet baked in parchment, it’s a winning coupling.

Chef Nancy Kelly, who apprenticed with Chef John Desmond of La Varenne cooking school in Paris and has worked with restaurants and catering services here and abroad, provides that kind of show for small groups.

For $25 a person she will demonstrate in your home how to prepare a gourmet meal while you and your guests sip wine and take notes. What’s more, she supplies the food, you supply the wine and you get to eat the results.

At a recent get-together, the meal included salmon, a sauteed duck breast with green peppercorn sauce and a chocolate mousse with caramelized orange peel.

Kelly, who also will cater private dinner parties from your kitchen, teaches in a relaxed manner, patiently answering even the most elementary of culinary questions. That she mostly uses your pots and pans, your tempermental oven and your limited space supports the idea that you don’t need fancy stuff to cook well.
